Why does the xPortalNet Server PC is Able to Ping Controller IP Address, but Controller Status is Still Shown as Down

Problem (Issue) Statement:

Why does the xPortalNet Server PC is able to ping Controller IP address, but Controller status is still shown as Down

Description:

After installation or replacing the controller with new unit, it is discovered that the controller status is shown as Down in xPortalNet software.

Symptom and Finding:

After ensuring that the model for the controller was correctly selected, the controller status is still shown as Down in xPortalNet software.

User then used the Command Prompt to ping the controller, and the Command Prompt is able to receive response from the controller's iP address.

Cause:

  • Controller status is shown as Down due to the address unit number set to Address no. 2 on controller board which does not match with the software configuration setting.

Solution:

Warning!

  • Users are not recommended to run any xPortal software in Windows XP operating system as the system is unstable

  • Users are also advised to stop the xPortal Services before shutting down the Server PC to prevent any missing transaction issues.

Step-by-step Guide:

  • Method 1: Change the Controller unit no at xPortalNet Server:

Step 1: Go to xPortalNet Server Server Admin> System Device Setup Controller. The Controller Setup window will be shown, select the specific controller and click Modify.

Step 3: The Edit Controller window will be shown. Change the unit no and follow the address number as configured in Web Diagnostic. Click OK to save the changes.

Step 4: The following message will be shown to indicate Record updated. Click OK to continue.

Step 5: Back at the Controller Setup Window, click Close to exit the window. The following message will then be shown to indicate the Request submitted to reload Controller list. Click OK to refresh the controller list.

Step 6: Monitor the Controller status and ensure that the status is able to be shown as Up in xPortalNet Server.

Step 1: Go to controller installed location, open the enclosure cover.

Step 2: Change the address number '02' to '00' on Dip-switch setting.

Step 3: Monitor the Controller status and ensure that the status is able to be shown as Up in xPortalNet Server.

Common Issue

Assign address number for IP controller when using network connection type.
